On March 26, 2026, a truck carrying 413,793 (12 tonnes) of KitKat’s new Formula-1 car shaped KitKats was stolen. The heist happened in Central Italy while the truck was on its way to Poland. The only information known about the thieves is that they pulled off the heist by pretending to be law enforcement officers. With no injuries or weapons, the heist was pulled off rather well- and the thieves have still not been found.
Nestle responded to this incident on April 1, 2026. While KitKat’s post threw in a sense of humor by saying “It seems thieves have taken the message so too literally and made a break with more than 12 tonnes of our chocolate,” according to Fox 9 News, they also confirmed that their statement was not a joke and they were working closely with authorities to find the thieves.
Since the heist, KitKat has released a website, asking consumers to put in the 8-digit, batch specific code in order to find out if it could be one of the stolen KitKats.
There is still no trace of the KitKat truck or any of the missing KitKats. It seems that the investigation is still ongoing, but KitKat will need a major break in order to find the thieves.
