Following his critically acclaimed 3rd album “Stick Season,” Noah Kahan released his 4th studio album “The Great Divide” on April 24. He released two singles before the release of the album, the title track “The Great Divide” and “Porchlight.” “The Great Divide” reached number 1 on the Hot Rock and Alternative Songs chart on Billboard. The song “The Great Divide” was released on February 1st of this year at the Grammy Awards during a commercial break.
Fans were so excited to get new music from Kahan after the success of his album “Stick Season (Forever).” His hit song “Stick Season” wasn’t just an overnight success however. Kahan originally posted a little snippet of the song on TikTok in October of 2020, but wasn’t confident that his fans would enjoy it. That definitely wasn’t the case when he checked and saw that the clip had gone viral all over the social media app. He finally was able to tweak the song, get it just right and then released it on his 3rd album. The fame that followed this release was huge. He released 2 deluxe editions of the album called “Stick Season (We’ll All Be Here Forever)” and “Stick Season (Forever)” which included collabs with Post Malone, Lizzy McAlpine, Kacey Musgraves, Hozier, Gracie Abrams, Sam Fender, Brandie Carlile and Gregory Alan Isakov. It’s safe to say that “Stick Season” was a major career boost for Kahan.
“The Great Divide” was originally released with 17 songs, but later on that same day, Kahan released a deluxe version called “The Great Divide: The Last Of The Bugs” that included 4 new songs. A little detail I enjoy about the deluxe album is that the new songs are spread all throughout the original album. When asked about what the audience should expect from the album, Kahan replied, “If something’s going wrong in your life and it’s raining, I recommend.” I can confirm that this album definitely hits differently when it’s pouring outside.
Noah Kahan has been really busy during the release of this album. He had a documentary come out on Netflix called “Noah Kahan: Out of Body” which dives really deep into his personal life and how he deals with his mental health. He also revealed that he is going on a stadium tour this summer all over the U.S. He will also have his SNL debut on May 9th as the musical guest.
