Over the past week, a monkey by the name of Punch has taken the world by storm. Punch is a young Japanese macaque and lives at the Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan and the adorable monkey already has a huge fan base all over social media.
A viral video that has been seen by millions of people is Punch being bullied by other monkeys in the habitat. What originally happened is Punch was trying to interact with another infant monkey but the mother intervened. Wanting comfort, Punch immediately went to his stuffed orangutan, which has helped him through his journey after his birthed mom abandoned him.
Later during the day, the zookeepers say that Punch’s behavior was normal and he wasn´t sad during his feeding. A lot of people that have seen the video see the other monkeys bullying Punch, but caretakers say that the behavior is normal and the other macaques are trying to show discipline to the others.
Over the past few weeks, the zoo has had many fans of Punch come out to show their love to the beloved monkey. On Sunday, February 22nd the Ichikawa Zoo had 6,000 visitors come out to see Punch. Zookeepers say that he is making friends and learning ways to connect with other monkeys in the enclosure.
