The start of award season is well under way as the Grammys took place this past Sunday in Los Angeles. The night was full of memorable moments from iconic wins and speeches, to unexpected celebrity moments.
One of the hottest names in the music industry right now, Bad Bunny, was the talk of the night. He did very well and went home with 3 Grammys, including Album of The Year for his hit album “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” which he is the first Latino artist to win in this category. He also won Grammys for Best Música Urbana Album for “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” and Best Global Music Performance for “EoO.” For all of the wins, he gave powerful speeches for each of them. For his win for Best Música Urbana Album he said, “Before I say thanks to God, I’m gonna say ICE out. We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens, we are humans, and we are Americans.¨
One of the biggest categories of the night is Best New Artist and they sure came to show off. The artists nominated for this category were: Sombr, KATSEYE, Alex Warren, Leon Thomas, Addison Rae, The Marías, Lola Young and the eventual winner Oliva Dean. Before the announcement of the winner, each nominee got to show off their talent by singing one of their popular songs for the audience. This tradition started last year, and the audience really enjoyed seeing the new talent perform and to see them express themselves through their music.
The rest of “The big 4 awards” were for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Song of the Year went to Billie Eilsh for her song “Wildflower” and Record of the Year went to Kendrick Lamar and SZA for their song “luther.”
Even though she didn’t win for Best New Artist, Lola Young won for her song “Messy” for Best Pop Solo Performance. Lady Gaga went home with two Grammys for Best Dance Pop Recording for “Abracadabra” and Best Pop Vocal Album for “Mayhem.”
Though he had nine nominations, Kendrick Lamar ended up winning 5 Grammys this year. He led all of the artists this year with his nine nominations and made history for the most Grammy-decorated rapper with a total of 27 Grammys which beat out Jay-Z with his 24.
With four nominations, KPop Demon Hunters won only one Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media for their song “Golden.” This was a history-making win because it is the first Grammy to be awarded for a KPop song.
One of the most talked about moments of the night was Harry Styles returning to the Grammys stage to present Bad Bunny his award for Album of the Year. A lot of fans loved this cross over because back in 2023, Harry Styles won in this category over Bad Bunny.
Cher was in charge of announcing the winner for Record of Year. The winner was “luther” by Kendrick Lamar and Sza, but by mistake she announced that the winner was Luther Vandross. People all over social media found this to be a very chaotic and funny moment at this year’s Grammys.
During many of the acceptance speeches this year, artists spoke about their feelings with the current Trump administration and ICE. Many of the artists wore pins saying “Ice Out” on their outfits which showed their clear opinion on the subject.
This year’s Grammys was definitely one for the books with history-making wins. From Bad Bunny to the first KPop song winning in their category, the Grammys always remind us that coming together with music is a beautiful way to celebrate all the art made during the year.
