HMO robotics has been one of the premier robotics programs in North Texas over the past few years. They have successfully won many VEX competitions and made runs to the state championship.
In the competition on November 15, AHMO robotics performed exceptionally, with 3 teams out of Wylie’s 6 teams qualifying for the round of 16. Vanguard finished 6th and won the excellence award; Wylie Jaguars and Whiplash finished 12th and 16th, respectively.
“We got 12th with a standard bracket. Last place in the bracket.” Jaguars member Austin Hamby said.
The competition robots are obviously not perfect and always have some kind of complications. “Mostly, the intake was really good. The drive train was questionable, though,” Hamby said.
A crucial step of robotics is to repair the robot’s mistakes after a qualifier, so the team can prepare for the next qualifier.“Basically rebuild, test, rebuild, test,” Hamby said.
In preparation for this latest competition on January 31, the Jaguars hoped their improvements would impact their placement.“I hope that our autonomous code writing skills and our building skills would be a little bit more improved,” Hamby said.
AHMO robotics performed well, albeit not as well as in the previous competition. Wylie had 2 out of 6 teams qualify for the round of 16, but both made it to the top 5.
