Through Dec 8-12, dual credit students at Wylie High took their Finals for the fall semester. Dual credit is paid college courses taught by Collin College at Wylie High School. These courses do not occur every day; instead, meetings are held on either Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or Tuesday and Thursday. The key difference between these classes and other classes organized by Wylie High School is that you cannot redo an assignment up to a 70 and there are final exams at the end of each semester.
“At first, I was a little bit intimidated by dual credit because it was a college class, but after going through the material and completing the finals, I feel that it was easier to handle what I’ve done before.” Christian Sachse (11) said.
Dual Credit finals are always stressful, especially because there’s a lot to lose for students.
“Test anxiety was high for I think all of the students,” Sachse said.
These finals take a lot of preparation for students, with hours upon hours of studying.
“I used study guides, online study guides, and I used the textbooks that were assigned from the professor,” Sachse said. “My test-taking strategy for the final was to make flashcards online and to completely study every topic on the study guide,” Sachse said.
Of course, many students can’t just study alone and have success; they study in groups with fellow classmates in preparation for a test.
“I had a few friends that were in the same class as me, and we all went over the study guide together, and that’s pretty much how we used each other to study,” Sachse said.
But once test days arrived, all the nerves came to effect.
“I was kind of confused by some questions because of the way that they were worded, but I felt that it covered pretty much all of those topics that we learned over class,” Sachse said.
Overall, these Dual Credit finals have had other students prepared for their future lives in college.
