The Montgomery Center was filled from top to bottom with music on Dec. 4 as the Wylie High School orchestra and middle school orchestras came together to perform at their annual winter cluster concert. The concert brought together students from different grade levels to perform seasonal and classical music that reflected months of preparation and collaboration.
The cluster concert allowed middle school students to experience a high school-level environment. Audience members filled the Montgomery Center to support performers, many applauding after each piece.
“I really enjoyed the concert, and the music was very soothing and nice to listen to. I’ve never seen an orchestra perform, so it was really nice to see one live with my friend also performing.” said Namia Ahmed (11).
For many students, the cluster concert was a meaningful milestone that marked their musical journey. Some students reflected on how performing alongside younger students reminded them of when they first began orchestra, while also highlighting the dedication and weeks of practicing that went into preparing for the winter concert.
“Performing at the holiday show felt like a full circle moment for me. I remember watching the high school perform it while I was at McMillan, and it made me so excited and hopeful that one day with enough dedication I could become that good. We practiced for weeks and seeing everyone’s reactions at the elementary, cluster concert, and winter extravaganza was so worth it.” said 6 year Orchestra member Angela Kanyi (11).
The cluster winter concert served as a celebration of growth, dedication, and collaboration among orchestra students across Wylie. By bringing together middle school and high school musicians, the event showcased musical talent and previewed the futures of middle school orchestra students.
