After defeating South Garland High School in the last regular season game, taking down Rockwall-Heath in Bi-District, and beating Waxahachie in Area, volleyball’s season comes to end, falling short to Grand Oaks High School on Nov. 12.
From the beginning of the year, Volleyball has had a successful season. At the start of tournament season, the Pirates ranked #13 in the state for 6A teams, setting them up for a triumphant season and postseason.
“We don’t have the hardest district, but when we’re practicing and scrimmaging harder teams, it really helps us gain confidence that we can still play harder teams,” Berkeley Weidinger (9) said.
Before playoffs, Wylie Volleyball took on regular season, standing at the top of their district and finishing the district season as Co-District Champions.
“I think that this year we’ve become such a big family and it’s allowed us to work better together on and off the court, and I think with volleyball being such a team sport and every person on the team matters, it’s so important that we’re all cohesive,” Sadie Warren (12) said.
The post-season proved to be a tough battle for Volleyball, facing challenges during the playoff games.
“We knew that there were going to be challenges, but during the Waxahachie game we were down two sets to one and so we were all nervous, but we still continued to fight,” Weidinger said.
Although their season was cut short, Varsity Volleyball was not met without victory, making it to the third round of playoffs and being named Area Champions.
