This past Monday, the Wylie High theater department began rehearsals for their production of Matilda the Musical.
“It’s a story of a girl who wants to be smart and fulfill her potential, but her surroundings aren’t letting her do that. So, she takes matters into her own hands,” Chloe Stovall (12), who plays Matilda, said.
Despite only being in rehearsals for a week, the cast and crew are already working hard to bring the show to life.
“We’ve just started rehearsals on Monday, so we’re starting out with the music and getting that all solid before we head to learn choreography,” Stovall said.
While rehearsals have been going smoothly so far, there is still much more to do in preparation leading up to opening night.
“It’s a lot of work. We have rehearsals from October to January, where we learn all of the music, choreography, and staging. Eventually, we bring in our pit musicians and work with them. So, it’s like 130 people who are a part of it in the end. We all work for a really long time together to get it solid,” Stovall said.
Despite all the hard work that goes into putting in a show, the cast members are determined to make it a positive experience.
“I’m savoring every moment, just making the most of it and helping some of our younger students get more comfortable with themselves. Because I know I would have appreciated that as an underclassman,” Stovall said.
