On Oct. 17, at Wylie ISD Stadium, Wylie High’s varsity football team took on the Garland High Owls. The Pirates lost to the Owls 35-27. The Pirates fell to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in District play. The game was a back-and-forth battle in the first half, with a score of 28-21 at halftime. However, the Pirates could not score points in the second half and only scored 6 more points while conceding a touchdown.
Wylie managed to get the run game going, with the Pirates running for 273 yards on 42 attempts, scoring three rushing touchdowns. Star player Daylon Gordon, offered by 2025 College Football Playoff attendee SMU Mustangs, and the Big-12 members Baylor Bears, ran for 218 yards on 27 attempts and ran for three touchdowns.
The Pirates have lost three straight games to Naaman Forest, Rowlett and now Garland. Two of those losses have been in one possession losses. Turnovers seem to be a weakness for Pirates, such as fumbling the ball and throwing an interception. Similarly, in the loss to Rowlett, The Pirates threw two interceptions against the Eagles.
The Pirates have a bye week this week, and will face the Lakeview Centennial Patriots next Thursday. In the season finale, The Pirates will play in the Crosstown Showdown against undefeated Wylie East Raiders.
