On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Wylie High’s Theatre program hosted an open mic night at local restaurant Backyard Murphy.
The night featured a variety of performances from members of the program, including pop solos and numerous duets.
Kennedy Story (12), a contributor to the theatre program, describes the night as essential for the program. “It allows everybody to get closer together but it also allows us to get out there more and [it] makes more people aware in the community about our theater department.”
It’s also mutually beneficial, “it helps promote us, but also promotes business at the Backyard as well,” said Story.
All in all, the low-stakes and relaxed atmosphere of the evening provides students with an easy way to display their talents and perform in front of their community, and as Story puts it, “It’s a good chance for everybody in the department to get together.”
