It is now officially fall and we are halfway through the 2025 Wylie High School football season. While showing up to watch the football game is fun, the halftime performance by the band, colorguard and Pacesetters is an amazing show not to miss. With all of the practicing they put into their craft, lets see how the halftime show comes together before each game.
From school work, to learning music, and maintaining a life outside of school, Inara Schell (10) shares when the band gets the music for the halftime performance.
“We got our music in May of last school year so we’ve been playing our music since May”, Schell (10) said. “And we’ve been actually rehearsing all together as this year’s band… since July”.
Before walking out onto the field to perform with colorguard, Margaret Cole (10) shares what her pre and post game routine is.
“For pre-game in the morning, I do my makeup before rehearsal. After rehearsal, anytime I can do my hair I do that,” Cole (10) said “For us it’s like Friday nights, but throughout that Friday, I’m not an insanely religious person, but for me, I like a lot of prayer and stuff like that because I feel better and I feel calmer. Post-game the moment I get home, I pop a bean burrito in the air fryer …hop in the shower and then pray that I’m not hurting the next day.”
Walking out on the field to perform during halftime is the highlight of the night for students involved for putting on the amazing performance.
“I feel really excited, it feels so cool. It’s just like I don’t know how to describe it. I’m just, like, proud of the band because … we work so hard to be able to do this. We work to be on the field in the first place, and it’s all of this time that we’ve spent all these 8 hours per week… just coming together and our hard work just paying off. It feels really amazing and cool,” Schell (10) said.
Even though there is a lot of hard work that goes into perfecting these great organizations, the members involved love what they’re doing and take it very seriously. While their performances always wow the crowd, the behind the scenes may shock people.
“It’s a lot of taking care of your body… you are an athlete. Like from the beginning of my freshman year, one set of band camp I lost about 20 pounds, which was 2 months of the summer. The hours and the time you put in… there’s so much you have to do to have your body as healthy as it can be for colorguard,” Cole (10) said.
From the hours of practicing to the euphoric feeling of “Friday Night Lights”, students from these organizations work their hardest to put on an amazing performance during halftime. Go out show your support for the band, color guard, and pacesetters and give them all the credit they deserve.
