As 2025 homecoming week is now just a part of our memory, let’s go back and review some moments from the first dress-up day all the way to homecoming dance night.
Starting on Monday, our first dress-up day was Beauty and the Beat, where we saw many students dress up as either beauties, such as princesses, or as the beat, including rappers or songwriters. After school, there was the homecoming parade, which took place on Ballard Street, and many clubs and organizations made floats for publicity. The Wylie band also played during the parade, doing an excellent job.
Then Tuesday was Twin Day, where a lot of Wylie High students dressed up together with their friends in the same outfit. Even some staff had participated in dressing the same as their peers. There were a lot of cool, notable twin outfits; one group, all dressed up as bananas, had seven people dressed up in matching outfits.
Wednesday was an interesting day, as the outfit theme for that day was Welcome to the Jungle, where many people dressed up in camo fits or animal print with their friends. But the more interesting thing happened after school, as our ex-superintendent, Dr. David Vincent, had his farewell ceremony, sharing some stories from his time being the superintendent for Wylie ISD and making great last memories with staff and students alike.
After such a heartfelt day, Thursday was a bit more sinister with the outfit theme being Evil Day. Many students and staff at Wylie High dressed up as iconic movie and TV show villains such as Queen Grimhilde, the Minions from Despicable Me, and worst of all, the Raiders from Wylie East. Later that night Freshmen and JV football played Sachse.
Finally, Friday came around. To kick it off, the dress-up day was Color Wars, where each grade level wore a different color: freshmen wore white, sophomores wore gray, juniors wore maroon, and finally, seniors wore black. The day took an interesting turn, as due to an air conditioning fault, students had to sit outside the school for two hours. Afterwards, they eventually were redirected to their 4th period and later went to the pep rally, which went really well as students were really hyped for the games later that day against Sachse.
After school, volleyball played against Sachse, and varsity, JV, and freshmen all beat Sachse by a landslide. While volleyball was going on, the homecoming coronation started. Nominees walked out and were voted on for who would become king and queen. After that, the main event started: varsity football, Wylie High vs. the Mustangs. And just like volleyball, we won by a landslide.
After the game, people went home to get ready for the big night on Saturday: the homecoming dance. From 7:30 to 11, students came with their dates or friends to have a great time taking pictures, dancing, and making unforgettable memories.
And that just about sums up homecoming week. Whether it was silly dress-up days, the farewell from our lovely ex-superintendent, crazy performances from our sports teams, or the dance, it was a week full of memories.
