On homecoming night, September 19, at the Montgomery center, Wylie High School’s Lady volleyball swept Sachse with freshman, junior varsity, and varsity teams each claiming victory.
Across campus the Pirates football team capped this celebration and secured the night with a win of their own.
All three levels dominated in their matches, highlighting the depth of Wylie High Lady’s volleyball teams. The crowd was packed with students, parents, and fans who came together to show their pirate pride and celebrate Wylie High’s homecoming.
“Everyone was ready to play. The excitement and intensity before the game started in the locker room was very motivating and everyone was locked in,” said JV player Ava Williams.
The importance of the sweep carried extra meaning, not only for one team’s success, but program-wide victory, with all three teams winning in the same night against rivals, making the homecoming celebration more memorable. “It was a sense of pride, because we had worked so hard to get to that point,” said freshman volleyball player Macey Light.
This victory was very significant and carried a bigger implication to the pirates, as it fuels their drive to sweep every other team in the district through the rest of the season. “ [This win] is going to make us want to keep winning and sweep everyone in our district,” varsity volleyball player Aubrey DeGrate.
