With the start of fall and the new school year, one thing that is always highly anticipated is football. Whether it is high school, college or the NFL, football is always a big deal. With all of the excitement around football, let’s see why it’s so special and the possibility of spreading school spirit to our other sports.
One reason there is so much excitement around Friday football games is all the fun the students have when they all come together as a school.
“My favorite part is just like the school spirit and the social interaction and when we win it’s a really good feeling for our school,” Emily Walker (11) said.
With all of the anticipation and spirit in the air around Friday Night Lights, Wylie High students come together and have a good time at the game.
“I definitely do [think that the game brings people together] just because there’s so many extracurriculars in the same place and not just football,” Juliette Cepale (12) said. “Theres band, theres colorguard and its everything”.
With all of the hype around going to the football games on Friday, students may overlook going to the other sports games offered in the fall. Students like Emily Walker (11) hope that students can bring enthusiasm to other sports.
“I just wished that everyone could show out for all the sports,” Walker (11) said “if we can all do it for Friday nights we can do it for baseball, tennis and volleyball and all those amazing sports”.
The atmosphere around Friday Night Lights is different from other sports. There’s much more eagerness and spirit around the anticipated game.
“There’s a lot more people and there’s a lot more hype and… energy,” said Cepale (12).
With the start of all the fall sports at the beginning of the school year, students may get caught up with only going to Friday night football games.
