As students near upperclassman status, there’s many things to look forward to. Juniors and Seniors are often granted off campus lunch, early release, and, of course, their very own parking spots. Naturally, one of the most anticipated milestones for these students is the opportunity to customize and paint these parking spots.
“My parking spot is inspired by fairytales. At the top, there’s a chapter 12 and my graduation year, as well as Tinkerbell. There’s a bookshelf in the middle that has my favorite quotes from books like Cinderella, and, on the bottom, there’s quotes from Harry Potter and Percy Jackson,” Emily Forester (12) said.
By allowing students to decorate their parking spots in ways meaningful to them, they are not only able to express their own personal styles, but also create a safe and familiar environment for themselves on campus.
“My parking spot is where I go to debrief and rant with my friends every day. We always get in my car and end up talking for about an hour,” Ashley English (11) said.
Overall, the privilege of getting to decorate a parking spot has become an incredibly pivotal part of the upperclassman experience, not only giving students an outlet to express themselves creatively, but also creating a significantly more comfortable setting for an overwhelming place.
“My parking spot is definitely my favorite place on campus. It’s definitely a safe space for me and my friends,” English said.
