With the start of every new school year, the senior class, as well as their parents and principals, come together to watch the sunrise, a tradition that symbolizes the start of seniors’ last year of high school.
This year, the class of ‘26 all gathered together for this nostalgic milestone.
“I liked being able to see the sunrise with my friends,” Pooja Bhatt (12) said. “You know, I thought it was a special moment, like we’re entering the year together, like we’ve been together since freshman year as friends. So, you know, the fact that we’re all seniors now it’s, like, a little bit bittersweet. It was really nice.”
While the senior class saw it as a fun, bittersweet way to start the school year, one particular parent experienced it from a unique perspective.
“Well, I always feel so hopeful for the seniors and this year was particularly nostalgic, I guess I would say, because my child is a senior…” Assistant principal Mrs. Katie Morales said. “And I just think it’s a beautiful event for them to start off the senior year.”
This particular sunrise brought up all sorts of emotions as the senior class reminisced on their time at Wylie High.
“A little bit of nostalgia, especially because they were playing a little bit of music in the background. So that. Yeah.
But it was mostly bittersweet, like, it was really, it was like, such a cute moment.” Bhatt said.
As the senior class of 2026 begins their final year of high school, both students and faculty alike look forward to the future with hope and optimism for the years ahead of them.
“I hope that they realize that this is a really important milestone for them,” Mrs. Moreles said. “It’s the last year of high school. It’s the last year people are going to be telling them what to do all the time. And after this, they’re going to take all of that information they learned over 12 years and apply it for their life.”
