On Thursday Apr. 17, the WHS Chamber Choir performed in a jazz themed concert called Coffee House at Wylie High. Those who attended enjoyed coffee and dessert while listening to the students sing.
The Coffee House concert is not like any other choir concert performed during the year. It’s a more relaxed, laid-back type of performance for family and friends.
“Coffee House is our choir and a live jazz band performing together for a night of nice desserts, coffee and fun,” Jordan Homeier (12) said.
The Chamber choir is a little different from the other choirs at Wylie High School. Chamber does a lot of acapella songs and is a very select group of singers.
“We perform like any other choir; we’re a very selective group like Tempo is. We do very choral and jazz type stuff and gibberish songs. We do use the piano sometimes but it’s mainly acapella, we only really use it for jazz,” Elizabeth South (12) said.
As the president of the choir, Jordan Homeier shares what she does as the president.
“I help plan events a lot. I try to keep my board of officers active in doing things for the choir like announcements and parties. I also visit other choirs to tell them what’s going on and I also pick out music sometimes,” Homeier said.
As her senior year comes to a close, Elizabeth has been able to build a relationship with choir and know what it means to her.
“This year was very great because being in the Chamber Choir is what made it so amazing. It’s the best part of my day and I know I can graduate knowing that I feel happy with what I did in choir,” South said.
The end of the year brings different opportunities to hear our WHS choirs sing. On Friday, April 25th and Saturday, April 26th, come out and watch the Tempo Show. The largest choir concert of the spring is the WHS Spring Show. It’s on Thursday, May 8th and features all the choirs of Wylie High.
