On Apr. 22, the annual Earth Day festivities will take place, a day where the nation comes together to celebrate and protect the environment and the world around them. Every year, festivals, fairs, and volunteer work begin in April to honor Earth Day, and they are all around us here in Wylie. Here are some fun local activities to celebrate Earth Day with friends and family.
In Frisco, they have an Earth Day Festival at the Frisco Heritage Center from 8AM-12PM on Apr. 26 and the local IKEA has a family craft from 4-5 PM on Apr. 21.
A little farther, Dallas has the Oakcliff Earth Day Festival by the Dallas Zoo on Apr. 13, The Oak Cliff Vendor Marketplace on Apr. 12, and The Festival of Service at the Juanita Rec Center. Carrollton has their Earth Day celebration with booths, food, and information about the environment and a flowerpot planting at their public library on Apr. 19.
Apart from the many group activities near you, you can also participate in some of your own activities, such as the stereotypical “planting a tree”, cleaning up your community, or simply taking a short walk outside. Earth Day comes only once a year and there are so many local things to participate in to celebrate a short, but important holiday.
