It’s almost the end of the school year, and that means it’s time for end of the year testing. Juniors and Seniors already took the SAT. But for the rest of us, we have the big dreaded STAAR test. Even though you might think the STAAR is annoying, it still counts. Let’s take a look at why the STAAR test is important.
One of the reasons why taking the STAAR is important is because it measures what each student has learned that year in their classes. Throughout the year we learn so much information in various subjects, and we take tests to show that we understand the topic. So at the end of the year when we take the STAAR test, it shows the school district and our teachers what we have learned, or haven’t learned, over the past year and what they should focus on more in the future.
Another reason why taking the STAAR test is important, is that it demonstrates to our parents what we have learned throughout the school year. Parents want to know what their child is learning in school every year. They can log into Skyward from time to time to see what grades we are earning, but when we take the STAAR test, it shows them if we are really absorbing all the information we are learning over the course of the year. If we don’t perform well on the test, that may raise some red flags that we need extra help in certain subjects.
The STAAR is also important because it can help students to prepare for any tests they take during the regular school year. Before taking the STAAR, teachers normally start going over all of the information they taught throughout the year to help us study before the test. With all of this preparation and work before the test, students can use this process as a guide for studying for tests during the school year. It can also help you learn better time management and testing skills for bigger exams like the SAT or ACT.
With the STAAR coming up next week, just remember to take deep breaths and eat something in the morning. You will need lots of energy to get through the test, so it will really help if you start the morning with a good breakfast and get lots of sleep the night before. Think positive thoughts and know that you will get through it.
