The Wylie High School girls soccer team has made a big effort since the beginning of the season that led them to winning as District champions. They did the best they could for it being their last game until playoffs.
“It’s honestly a great feeling to win because even though I wasn’t able to play during my senior night, I made up for it now at this game,” Madeline Owens (12) said.
Winning districts is what really determines if a team moves on to the next part of the season, which is the playoffs.
“Without this win, we would not have made it to the playoffs. Holding the trophy in our hands was a great moment because it was a moment that was celebrated with everyone,” Miriam Mendez (12) said.
Not only did the girls soccer team win districts, but they also have a Bi-District championship under their belt. This year alone, in 2025, has had a positive impact on the team.
“Being here on the team has really helped me get through this year because not only is it my last year as a senior, but it also made me realize that winning these last few games has really made me glad that I met really great people,” Mendez said.
Mental preparation plays a key role in how the team performs on the field. Focusing on their mindset before each game helps them stay motivated and ready to play.
“Right before we play, I get focused and I get in my zone, and once I play, I think about my strategies and how I want to move. Sometimes when I am not really in my zone, I don’t have time to think of my moves,” said Miriam Mendez (12).
With their district title secured, the team now shifts into the playoffs, where they hope to continue their winning streak and keep advancing.
