Here in Wylie, us kids struggle to find something to do in this slow-paced town. Other than the common spots like Firewheel Shopping Center or Downtown Wylie, there’s not much to do in a 20-minute vicinity. Or so I thought.
I did a deep dive into Wylie or neighboring towns to find places to hangout that aren’t just a Sonic parking lot or a nearby Target so you don’t have to scroll on Google Maps for an hour in your car in your friend’s driveway.
If you want a chill day out in the town, I would recommend coffee at The Vive Coffee in Garland, next to Firewheel, or Bloom Cafe on Campbell Road. Then some shopping at Dallas Vintage Store in Rowlett, or a more local Uptown Cheapskate in Woodbridge Crossing, or some reconnecting with nature in Spring Creek Forest Reserve in Garland or Brockdale Park overlooking Lake Lavon. To finish the day off, I would suggest eating at a Murphy restaurant like Morgio’s Pizza or Villa Vinci on Ballard Street.
For a fun day out with friends, I would start the day with brunch at SouthFork Cafe in Murphy or Frankie’s Casa on Ballard Street. For group activities, Breakout Games, a well-rated escape room, in Plano or Activite Games, the world’s first interactive gaming facility would be a good choice. Or if you’d enjoy a night on the town with your friends, you could go see an old movie at Cinemark Rockwall 14, or enjoy food outdoors with a fun atmosphere at Katy Trail Outpost or a bit farther Plano Restaurant called Ford’s Garage.
If you like thrifting, I would recommend going to the brand new Indy Clover store in Garland.
If you like reading, I would suggest a personal favorite of finding Little Free Libraries in your area, which are small decorative book boxes in neighborhoods, where you can trade a book for another free one in the box.
If you like live music, I would stop by the Love and War in Texas restaurant.
If you enjoy playing sports, I would suggest playing at Rowlett Park.
If you’d like to venture out farther, I would suggest personal preference of Downtown Plano, Historic Downtown McKinney, or Bishop Arts District in Dallas, all of which have live music choices, lots of food, pretty streets and shops, and ambient book stores and boutiques. I would specifically recommend Georgia’s Farmer’s Market and Sutton Place in Downtown Plano, Spoons Cafe and Red Zeppelin Records in Downtown Mckinney, or Revelers Hall and Poets Bookshop Oat Cliff in Bishop Arts District.
If you look close enough, you can find millions of small outings near you in Wylie, or fun day trips with your friends or loved ones. You just have to zoom in a bit closer on Google Maps.
