This past Thursday, the National Art Honor Society hosted a Bob Ross-themed painting party. While NAHS has hosted events for their members this year, this was the first event they hosted open to other adults and students.
“At first, we made it open to just teachers, parents, and then a lot of the parents reached out to us, and they were like, ‘Oh, we wanted to come with our kids,’ so then we opened it to high schoolers as well,” Ameya Kohli (11) said.
Opening up the event to people outside of NAHS also gave the organization an opportunity to fundraise for their club and future projects and events.
“We’re working on a mural right now, and it’s going to be outside of this classroom, kind of, and we are just raising money to buy supplies for that mural,” Kohli said.
Not only is Bob Ross a notable and influential figure in the art world, his status as an artist lended its hand to NAHS’s theme this year, making it a clear decision to host an event centered around the painter.
“This year, our theme for the whole year is Renaissance painters, so we were doing a lot of things around just past painters, I guess, and obviously a lot of the people in our club, they were more familiar with more modern painters so like Bob Ross is a very familiar figure in the art world and we just thought it would be super fun if we’d all came together, watched a video of a Bob Ross painting, and we had a couple people dressed up as Bob Ross,” Kohli said.
NAHS is an active club year round and will continue their events and service throughout the year, taking lead in Celebrate the Arts and competing in VASE.
