The planned date for the TikTok ban was set to be in motion on Jan. 19, 2025.
The Supreme Court had ultimately ruled that TikTok was going to be banned state-wide in the US and no longer be able to be searched on any platform where it could be downloaded.
This took a toll on many TikTok creators and influencers due to the positive effect it has created on the 170 million US users. The app went “dark” on Jan. 18, 2025 approximately around 8:30 PM EST.
12 hours later TikTok had returned with the news that President Donald Trump had signed a delay on his first day in office.
When reality hit, US TikTok users had deleted the app and when the app came back, it was no longer available on any app store. Although that happened, people have said “I will pay” implying that people were offering to either sell a phone that has TikTok already downloaded or even pay for a screen recording of the ‘For You Page’.
Ultimately,TikTok is still able to be accessed on US devices but not able to be redownloaded. There has not been confirmation of when the app will be back on app stores but Trump signed an executive order stating he’s “delaying enforcement of the law for 75 days, granting ByteDance more time to sell a stake in the platform to a US company.”
Until further news is to come, TikTok is still available and running on US devices as of Jan. 20, 2025.
