Basketball season is in full swing, with all teams well into district play. While the district season isn’t over yet, the Varsity Girls Basketball team has their eyes set on a goal beyond district season
“The team’s biggest goal is definitely just to win a first round [playoff] game because we haven’t won one in 13, like, 12 years, so that’s definitely something we’re going to try to do,” senior, Micha Lovelace said, “I think it’s very doable for us.”
The team hasn’t been without challenges, though. Facing injuries and having several new players join the team throughout the season, it’s been important to the players to build and keep good team chemistry on and off the court.
“It’s definitely a little challenging because you kind of have to completely restart, like a fresh start, but we do a lot of team activities, we try to make sure we connect on things outside of the games,” Lovelace said.
District season also offers the team an opportunity to prepare for playoff season, figuring out what works on the court and what doesn’t as well as playing against tougher competition.
“We think of it kind of as practice just for the stuff we really try to emphasize on and work on the stuff that we need to work on so when we play against Sachse or Wylie East, it’s up to perfection,” Lovelace said.
As the district season continues, the Varsity Girls will continue working toward their goal of playoff success.
