Every time Wylie High School students exit their beloved school, they are plagued by incessant honking, crashing, and beeping. Yes, that’s right, the construction between 544 and Country Club drags on.
Since 2022, the students of Wylie High School and innocent commuters everywhere have been tormented by endless lane closures, traffic, and accidents. Sure, adding another turn lane is certainly an alluring possibility, but at what cost? Is four long years worth it?
And while four years may seem like an hyperbolic representation of the seemingly endless construction, it is not. Though the project was originally projected to wrap up in the summer of 2024, according to City of Wylie Projects, it is now slated to end in (brace yourself)… February 2026.
That’s right, the citizens of Wylie will be forced from their paths by abrasively orange cones and signs for at least another full year before they finally reap the rewards of an expanded turn lane.
Luckily, once the lanes open, the lights should be significantly more well organized. Considering its location, ensuring that the intersection is efficient is key; so many new drivers frequent the roads, and perhaps accidents will decrease with more left hand turn lanes.
At least, that’s certainly the hope–that one day, those double left hand turn lanes will make four years of traffic, accidents, and closures worth it, and improve the life of Wylie residents for many years to come.
