On September 26th, Ipatch dropped the first of their series of “hype videos” centered around sports teams. The first one, produced by Lincoln Perez and Zac Yap, was about our football team and called Euphoria after the song by Kendrick Lamar.
“I noticed that a lot of hype videos I see for high schools use that sort of “epic, cinematic” kind of music that you’d hear in a movie trailer rather than a hype video. I wanted to use music that is for the people, specifically targeted to a younger audience. You know, music high schoolers would listen to,” Lincoln Perez (12) said.
The video was played for everyone at the Sept. 27 homecoming pep rally for the game which the pirates won against Garland 41-14. It took around a month for the clips to be gathered, edited together, and clip the song over it.
“It initially took a lot of planning and getting connected with people that could let me on the field, let me film at practice, you know, even contacting the players to see if I can get some personal shots of them. Then the editing process was pretty hectic because of how much footage I accumulated. Sound design was really fun though, I would call up my buddy, Zac, and we’d stay up super late just trying out different sounds and effects,” Perez said.
The song Euphoria was chosen because of its relevance with the students because of how new it was. It had been released a couple of months prior in a series of diss tracks between music artists Drake and Kendrick Lamar. The idea was to use something that someone would see in a movie trailer for a long awaited movie to build up a sense of school spirit.
“I would like to do this for a very long time. I have always had an interest in film/video production, so being able to further my learning and skills by doing what I love is something I am forever grateful for. I want to keep making videos that excite people and that represent a community. It’s very fulfilling to make a career out of what you enjoy and love doing,” Perez said.
While the praise may be silent, Lincoln’s contribution to the school won’t be forgotten because of his plans to continue to make these videos that have become highly requested. He’s currently working on videos for the Men’s Basketball and Men’s Volleyball team. Just imagine how it must feel to work so hard on something that makes its way to being a potential new tradition, because that’s how Lincoln Perez feels.
