Halloween, Christmas, and Thanksgiving debate has long ignited discussions around family gatherings, festive decor, and seasonal joy. But which holiday truly reigns supreme. According to sources, Visual Capitalist, the top three most liked holidays of the year nation-wide, are No. 1 Christmas, No. 2 Thanksgiving, and No. 3 Halloween.
Each holiday brings something unique to the table such as dressing up and going out to trick-or-treat or party with friends on halloween, the heartwarming gatherings and delicious feast to celebrate with friends and family on Thanksgiving , or the joyous celebration of fostering values of love, compassion and unity among families and communities during the Christmas season.
We asked a couple of students and staff of Wylie High School to tell us their preferred holiday and to defend it on why it is the best holiday out of all the others.
“Definitely Christmas…it’s the best because I just like the decorations and just like the overall feeling and like the memories of, like, childhood… we have like, these really big traditions that we do in our family, ” Evie Cotton (11) said.
Christmas indeed brings all sorts of feelings, from winter blues to joyous warmth, that’s why so many people appraise this holiday as the best holiday of the year. This festive season paints the world with twinkling lights and cozy decorations, wrapping everything in a warm, magical glow. The air feels charged with energy and excitement. Unlike Thanksgiving where feasting and gratitude reign supreme, or Halloween which is filled with spooky thrills and costumes, Christmas resonates on a deeper and sentimental level that brings families and friends closer together around a tree and a spirit of love. It’s about reconnecting with loved one’s, sharing stories, and creating new memories that will last a lifetime, making it the most beloved time of the year for so many.
“I personally don’t care much for Thanksgiving because I feel like it’s kind of mid,” Annika Karram (12) said.
Just like many other students here at Wylie High, a majority can agree that Christmas is just better. Thanksgiving is cozy and heartwarming, with great food and family time, but lacks the festive excitement of christmas. It’s a nice opening to the holiday season, but not as magical. Halloween is fun with costumes and candy, but doesn’t have the same warmth and meaning as Thanksgiving or Christmas.
“My favorite holiday is probably Christmas. Because of the holiday cheer and it’s like family, [and] how homey and cozy it feels in your house after you decorate it,” Leyna Streefkerk (11) said.
