On Monday, Oct. 28 Wylie ISD had a school board meeting where they inducted some of the following students into branches of the College Board Recognition Program. Abriana Fernandez, Zion Tesfaye, Dylan Washington, Noah Mallory, and more.
“We were chosen because of how high our PSAT AND SAT scores were and how we identified on college board,” Dylan Washington (12) said.
The branches of the recognition program are National African American Recognition Program, National First-Generation Recognition Program, National Hispanic Recognition Program, National Indigenous Recognition Program, and National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program. Out of those awards the ones presented on Monday, were the “College Board National African American Recognition Program Scholars” and the “College Board National First-Generation Recognition Program Scholars”
“This can help in my college search because when I add this to my resume or clubs/ achievements list it can make me look better than others that may not have this same qualification,” Zion Tesfaye (12) said.
Some of the benefits that come with the program are scholarships that are provided by universities. Mississippi State University covers full tuition for all four years, University of South Carolina reduces their tuition to $22,115, and many more reductions on tuition.
I was squad leader of the flutes my junior year and this year in the section leader,” Abriana Fernandez (12) said.
Zion Tesfaye was Inducted to both the African American Recognition Program and the First Generation Recognition Program. Fernandez was inducted to the First Generation Recognition program, and Washington the African American Recognition Programs. The program helps provide further placement and recognition for underrepresented students and help them get the advantage other students get.
