Fashion at Wylie High means much more than something that is just worn; fashion has to do with identity. From oversized hoodies to fitted vintage denim, variation all around school proves just how different everyone’s take on fashion can be. While some follow the latest trends, others opt for making their own statement by going out of the way to choose unique pieces of clothes.
It’s a means for students to express their individuality. Many students use their choice of clothing as a way to express interests or personal style to their peers. Whether it’s choosing vintage pieces, creating their own outfits, or mixing patterns, fashion at school is as diverse as the students themselves.
“Clothes are more than just a statement to me, they make me feel more expressive of my personal blend of style whether it’s wearing Carhartt or Abercrombie and Fitch,” Tyler Cook (11) said.
Fashion can also play a role in helping students feel confident. Many students feel that when they wear something that shows off their personality, they are more comfortable and ready for whatever might arise that day.
“It really shows my creative side and it also just gives me self confidence to go through the day at school,” Ethan Ong (11) said.
Balancing individuality with the need to fit in is part of the high school experience, and fashion becomes the tool for self-expression and connection.
