The Christian Care Center is a non-profit food pantry run entirely by volunteers with the primary goal of providing relief for families amidst hardship. Each month, the facility distributes food across the metroplex, extending branches of compassion to people in need. In times of crises, the center has the ability to sustain ongoing financial assistance.
The center originally only served Wylie, but through donations and volunteers the facility now reaches Lavon, Nevada, Josephine, Copeville, Royse City, Sachse, and Murphy.
“I serve occasionally. It’s a great way to give back to the community and its residents,” Laura Kelley said.
The WCCC was founded in 1982, by the attendees of First Baptist Church with themes of compassion, service, and love. The volunteers at the center are warm and friendly, creating an inviting atmosphere. The staff is accepting of all regarding backgrounds, race, or circumstances.
The establishment organizes food drives and partners with local churches, businesses, and schools to gather donations. These efforts ensure everyone in Wylie has the necessities for life.
In addition to providing food, the pantry offers cooking classes, nutritional insight, and even licensed counseling to individuals and families in need. Valuable skills are taught to increase the well-being of individuals.
Wylie students can donate by delivering packaged goods to the front office of Wylie High School. The donation bins open October 28th, collecting canned goods. The pantry needs: jam or jelly (plastic containers please), boxed dinners (i.e. Hamburger Helper, Tuna Helper), canned chili, pasta sauce, peanut butter, bags of rice (1 lb or 2 lb), mac & cheese, mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, ground coffee (small container), tea bags, canned chicken, shampoo, deodorant, razors, bath soap.
