Boys have a volleyball club, and a football team, but girls don’t have a football club. Do girls not want a football team or do they feel embarrassed if they do want to play?
Girls have come a long way from being able to even play sports, but boys are physically built differently, so they have athletic advantages.
“There isn’t anything specifically that doesn’t allow a woman to play football or create a football team. We have created soccer, tennis, softball, golf. Why not football?” Genesis Vasquez (11) said.
Sports have many benefits, such as learning how to work with others, even the people you don’t like, staying focused, pushing through the last minutes, failing but getting back up, and creating friendships.
“Yes, (girls should have a football team) because some girls are into that sort of thing and it gives them even more competition. It would definitely bring some new excitement.” Lexi Bell (11) said.
Guys have the opportunity to play volleyball with all boys, but girls aren’t given the option to play football with just girls.
“If there is a big enough group of girls that want to form one then yes, as a club. It would be like the boys volleyball club,” Emma Gunderson (12) said.
If girls could have a football club/team then the competition would be more fair, instead of girls joining the boys team.
“Girls should have the same opportunities to pursue their interests even if it is a male dominated field,” Kaitlyn Cantu (12) said.
There is a girl on the team, who is the kicker, and she enjoyed being on the field. ¨Being the only girl on the team was just like me being on any other team. I didn’t pay much mind to me being the only girl on the team,”Mia Narvaez (12) said.
Girls can play whatever sport they like, and don’t have to prove they can play a sport.
¨I hope that in the future more girls will have the courage to try out for the team and not be scared to enjoy the sport they love!¨ Narvaez (12) said.
