Prom is a special night everyone looks forward to, but not everyone knows the process and all the work is put into preparing prom.

Cynthia Patel has many responsibilities such as: finding a venue, picking a date, decorations, colors, planning a theme, and getting everything ready. With all this responsibility there comes some challenges. 

“Getting students to participate in the voting and the planning is a challenge,” Patel said. “Also, making sure I capture what the prom planning committee was going for.”

The students in the Graphic II help with prom by coming up with the designs.With the help of the Graphic Design II class, Patel is able to also order the shirts, posters and tickets.

“The Graphic Design class comes up with the shirt designs,” Patel said. “Then the senior class votes on the design.  After I know which design won, the student that designed the winning shirt works on the tickets and poster design.”

 The winning designer this year is Ava Wehner (11).

“What inspired me to do this design was that I knew I wanted to include a film strip on the shirt for the old Hollywood vibes, and I also really wanted the Hollywood sign to be on the shirt and kind of stand out a bit more from the rest,” Wehner said. “So I colored the Hollywood sign with 2 shades of baby pink to make it pop on the black shirt, and I included a film reel flowing throughout the design.”

Wehner had some challenges when she first started her design and finding out where to start. 

“Once you have a general idea of what you want, then it’s much easier…my favorite part was honestly making the prom tickets because I had a little more creative liberty but still had to be on theme,” Wehner said. “From where I started to where I ended up was very different, and it’s really cool in my opinion to see where designs start and what they end up being in the end.”

Patel never rests from planning prom, she starts from the day after prom. There are so many components that work together to make prom a night to remember.
