This past Friday, WHS’s orchestra went on a tour of some of Wylie’s elementary schools. In total, they played at 3 elementary schools, including Watkins, Birmingham, and Cox. They also performed at Firewheel mall, and at the Wylie Central Office.
The orchestra performed exclusively holiday pieces, including some Christmas classics like “Jingle Bells” and “Sleigh Ride.” They also performed a rock rendition of Carol of the Bells, with junior Edward Echeverria on guitar.
Earlier that week, the Chamber orchestra also performed at Wylie’s municipal center, which is currently running an international decoration contest. If you stop by, you can explore the city hall and its many decorated hallways, each specifically decorated in a different country’s holiday tradition.
Finally, the orchestra hosted the annual Wylie Orchestra Cluster Concert on Saturday night. This featured beginner players from Davis Intermediate, players from McMillian, and of course Wylie High’s own. The concert highlighted the program’s growth, and provided younger players with a view into their futures.
On December 18th, the Chamber orchestra will join the top band and choir for a combined holiday concert. Consider stopping by to help support Wylie’s fine art programs.
