Wylie High’s chapter of DECA is diligently preparing for their January competition.
At competition, the education club will present their meticulous business plans in front of judges. They’ll be judged on their proposals, creativity, and overall clarity.
Here at Wylie, DECA’s biggest sector is Marketing. This appeals to many students, “I want to go into marketing, so being in DECA is good experience,” said Quinn Ngyuen.
There’s many other courses in the program, including finance, hospitality, entrepreneurship, and management. DECA also boasts lots of volunteering opportunities, including mentoring and community help.
It isn’t all business though. Soon they’ll have their Halloween party, and later in the year their dance. Overall, the organization prides itself on balancing community relationships with academic growth.
The lessons members learn in DECA also benefit their other classes, and many students join to help with college admissions. Most members I spoke to mentioned higher education in their responses, “I joined because it’s a good extracurricular,” said Sara Ye.
DECA competitions and conferences scale all the way up to nationals, which this year will be held in Anaheim CA and Orlando FL.
Let’s wish WHS’s chapter a good luck on their journey.
