For two years volleyball has lost to Sachse, but not this year. The Pirates break that streak and win with a clean sweep on August 22.
There are multiple aspects that come into play when winning a game.
¨We woke up that morning with the mentality that we were going to win and we kept that same mentality for the rest of the day until we actually hit the court.¨ Cherish Okpara (12) said.
In volleyball, there are six people on a court at all times.
¨Volleyball is a team sport it doesn’t revolve around one person and our last games show that we work better as a team.¨ Keira Mason (10) said.
Beating a team like Sachse can change the mentalities of the players.
¨When all three teams beat Sachse we were all so happy.” Mason said, “Our mindset changed because we now know we can beat Sachse and we can beat anyone if we have the energy to do so.¨
The crowd and players on the bench have a big effect on how the players play on the court.
¨Our bench and crowd were feeding us with their energy and we kept pushing to the last point.¨ Okpara said.
Having encouraging teammates can have a big outcome on the win or loss of a game.
¨If you watch us cheer on our team we celebrate each point as if it is the best play.¨ Mason said.
Many athletes have a pre game warm up so they can get ready for the game.
¨How I prepare myself to win a game is first I read Psalm 18:2, which helps me mentally for a game, but physically I make sure to get a good [nights] rest.¨ Mason said.
Varsity has a specific way to get hype before a game.
¨We do this thing called pump it up where the whole team basically jumps around to get our heartbeats racing before the game.¨ Okpara said.
Later this season the volleyball team will be playing Sachse again, and it will be another competitive match with Sachse looking for revenge.
