The new school year has started and we have a few rules that some people tend to forget, or don’t know about at all. Wylie High uses rules to make sure that, as students, we have the best learning experience possible. Although they aren’t that cool or fun, they help us in the long run. For more in-depth detail on some of these rules, you can go to the WISD website , use the links provided here, or ask your teachers or professors. Remember, that it never hurts to ask your questions and that communication is key to having a successful high school experience.
Dress Code
Wylie’s dress code has been modified many times over the years, but this year it has been changed for the better! For pants, they must be solid colored, must have no rips or tears, all skirts, dresses, and shorts may be worn no shorter than 4 inches from the knee, and all pants must be worn at the natural waist and have no undergarments showing. Concerning tops, they can be any collared shirt, sweater, or spirit wear. You may also wear sweatshirts and crewnecks, but they cannot be worn off the shoulder. All clothing items cannot contain graphics that depict violence or are lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene in nature, advertise or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or any other prohibited substance. Another huge part being added to our dress code this year is ID’s. All students and staff are required to be wearing their designated Wylie High School ID at all times around the building. This is for all of our safety. You are able to purchase a new ID in the library or you can go to 240 and get a sticker badge (you will get a dress code violation), if you do not have your ID on you in the building. Lunch
The rules for lunch have never really changed, but there are many that students tend to forget. We have one Mega Lunch, so all classes have 1 hour altogether. There are 5 lunch lines with all different kinds of food that are available to all students, but ONLY JUNIORS AND SENIORS CAN GO OFF-CAMPUS! In order to go off campus you must show your ID to prove you are a junior or senior, skyward does not count and is not an acceptable form of identification to leave during lunch. If you are an underclassman and get caught sneaking off, there will be consequences to follow. You are not allowed to eat in any gym or auditorium during the designated lunch hour. You may eat in classrooms if there is a teacher or professor present and you have their permission to eat in the classroom. Students are allowed to eat outside on the picnic tables and in the halls, but be respectful because there are classes and meetings going on, and dispose of your trash in the proper places. No matter where you go for lunch, be respectful and kind, you are a part of the Wylie High family and need to be a good representation of our school! Tardies/ Attendance
This year our school is tightening the reins on us considering tardiness and attendance. They have extended the passing period to 6 minutes no matter where you are in the building. If you are late to class, it is on you to get a tardy pass or a note from a teacher or professor if you were talking to them or in their classroom. If you do happen to be late to class, you go to the attendance office and get a tardy pass before you go to your class. Depending on the amount of tardies you have, there are consequences that follow. Regarding attendance, on the day you are absent your guardian must either call the school or enter a note in Skyward Parent Access. The day you come back after your absence, if you have a note, turn it into the box near the attendance office. After a certain amount of absences you will receive consequences by the school or even a court. If you have any questions, or need more clarification, go to the website below.
Chromebooks/ Electronic Devices
Each student at Wylie High is required to have a school issued chromebook for standardized testing. All students must pay $40 for the annual insurance fee. If you ever have any complications or have something broken on your chromebook, go to the library and they will most likely be able to help you. Students may use their own personal computer for any class unless the teacher or professor specifies otherwise. The majority of the online programs used at Wylie High can be accessed on any type of computer or electronic device. Regarding phones and other electronic devices, they must be put away during all classes unless instructed otherwise by teacher or professor. Parking Lot
Students who are drivers have the ability to purchase a parking spot for the school year. All students have the ability to paint the parking spot they paid for, but they cannot contain paintings that depict violence or are lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene in nature, advertise or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or any other prohibited substance. For information on parking permits visit room 240 with your driver’s license. For drop off in the mornings and pickup in the afternoon, please follow the security guards directing traffic. Parking in the middle of isles, bus loop, and 544 cafe parking lot is not permitted. If you park in a parking spot without a pass on your car, you will get written up and there will be consequences that follow. Skyward/ Grading Procedures
Skyward is the system we use for grades, announcements, and referrals. You can access the website online or there is a mobile app available for download. Parents do have access to Skyward and receive notifications (so stay on top of your stuff and your behavior). All grades for Wylie High students are uploaded into Skyward unless you are in dual credit or a different form of class. At Wylie, we have a three-day grading policy. The day an assignment is due you get full credit, any day before the three-day window is closed you get a 70 at most, any day after that your teacher has the ability to not give you any credit at all. All Wylie High teachers follow this procedure. If you need extra time on an assignment, communicate with your teacher or professor to discuss an extension, they are not required to give you one, but they may. If you have any questions about grading ask your teacher or professor because they all do it differently, so make sure you communicate with them. If you have any questions or need more clarification, go to the websites below.

Remember the rules are there for a reason, even if we disagree. Our school board, and all the others that contribute as well, work very hard to make sure we are safe, productive, learning, and having fun. This year they are enforcing the rules more then ever before, so make sure you are doing your best to stay up to date on all of the rules. All information you could need is on the WISD website if you have any questions!
